Once extinct in the wild, but rescued from the brink by captive breeding efforts, the PRZEWALSKI’S HORSE now inhabit the steppes of China and Mongolia. Listed as endangered, this subspecies is considered to be the world’s only truly wild horse.

Recently I teamed up with the world renown SAM VEASNA CENTER in Siem Reap to create this pictorial map of Cambodian Ecological hotspots. The 9 foot by 9 foot image will hang on the lobby wall of the groups headquarters.

The LION-TAILED MACAQUE is an endangered species of Old World Monkey found in Southwestern India. Unlike many other species of macaque they avoid humans. Their population has decreased due to loss of the tropical moist evergreen forests they call home.

The critically endangered BLACK BEARDED SAKI is found in the far eastern Amazon of Brazil. They are threatened by habitat loss and pressures from hunting. Their scientific name Chiropotes, means “hand-drinker.”

The AKOHEKOHE is a critically endangered honeycreeper endemic only to the island of Maui. The species was thought to be extinct until 1945, when a small population was discovered. Today their survival is threatened by habitat loss, disease and competition from non-native species.

The AKIAPOLAUU is an endangered species of honeycreeper endemic to the island of Hawaii. The birds unusual bill is used for bark removal in search of larvae. Habitat loss and predations by invasive species are the main threats to its survival.

WOO-WOO it’s ATTWATER’S PRAIRIE CHICKEN!! This endangered subspecies of the Greater Prairie Chicken, threatened mainly by loss of habitat, can be found on the Western Gulf costal grasslands of Texas and Louisiana. During mating season the males attract the females by emitting a booming “Woo-Woo” from their throat sack.
